- Since a freewheeling diode is already installed inside the product, it can operate safely without overvoltage protection for inductive loads under the specified battery supply voltage. However, for a rectified power supply, it is best to connect a varistor across the power supply terminals.
- The normal sequence of operation is to connect the load power first and then apply the control signal voltage; otherwise, it may damage the internal chip.
A freewheeling diode, also known as a flyback diode, is connected in parallel with an inductive load (e.g., motor, inductor, or transformer) in electronic circuits to provide a path for the current when the switching device (e.g., transistor, IGBT, or thyristor) turns off. This prevents voltage spikes caused by the inductive load’s stored energy, protecting the circuit and reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI).
