DC Current Shunt (DC Ammeter Shunt)
DC current Shunts provide an accurate DC millivolt signal, proportional to the DC current being measured, to drive analogue and digital panel meters, overload protection and control devices. The standard range from1A to 15000A with 60 or 75 or 150mV outputs and accuracy class 0.5%
A wider range non-standard shunts is also available with a choice of outputs, higher accuracy and current capacity of up to 25,000 Amps.
Benefits of DC ammeter shunt:
- Extended Range: The primary benefit of a shunt is to extend the range of an ammeter. An ammeter itself might have limitations in terms of the maximum current it can measure accurately. By using a shunt, higher currents can be accurately measured.
- Accuracy: When properly designed and calibrated, a shunt provides accurate current measurements even at higher current levels. This accuracy is crucial for applications where precision is required.
- Cost-Effectiveness: Using a shunt with an existing ammeter is often more cost-effective than purchasing a high-range ammeter. This is particularly relevant when high current measurements are infrequent.
- Safety: Using a shunt allows the main current to be diverted away from the ammeter, protecting it from potential damage due to excessive current.
